SUMA in one of Europe's largest biomethane plants

Südzucker Polska S.A. from Poland has been putting its first biomethane plant into operation, setting new benchmarks. With an output of 45 MW, it is not only the first of its kind in Poland, but also one of the largest in Europe.

The expansion of the biogas plant, which has been in operation since 2012, is an essential part of the customer's energy transition.

The first sugar industry flagship project for a green circular economy.

The plant uses only beet pulp from sugar production and produces up to 9,000 m³ of biogas per hour - mainly used for own needs. The remaining biogas after being processed into biomethane is fed into the national grid. The resulting fermentation residue is processed into water and valuable fertiliser.

Technology meets sustainability: SUMA mixing technology in action

SUMA GIANTMIX long axis agitators ensure optimum mixing of the post-fermenter.

  • Concrete tank: 92 m x 20 m
  • Volume: 813,000 US gal lqd
  • Temperature: 125 °F
  • Substrate: beet pulp with 5 % dry matter content

We are proud to be part of this pioneering project and to contribute to the energy transition in Poland and Europe with our stirring technology.

Many thanks to Südzucker Polska for their trust and cooperation.
