Livestock farming produces slurry, which is used as a valuable fertilizer on arable or grassland. Since slurry is produced continuously, it must be stored temporarily in containers, silos or pits. As a result of the storage, floating layers form due to sedimentation.
It is essential to stir the slurry before spreading it on the field. Slurry agitators are used to stir the slurry. On the one hand, agitating the slurry prevents the formation of floating layers, which in turn makes the substrate pumpable and flowable. Furthermore, agitating the slurry homogenizes it, i.e. it mixes it thoroughly. This ensures the best possible distribution of nutrients.
SUMA offers a wide range of slurry agitators for elevated tanks, open or closed pits, slatted floors and ring or slalom channels. SUMA slurry agitators are available with different types of drive:
Long axis agitators are available both with and without their own motor. Because they have a drive shaft, they often protrude far into the container, which means they are often used in large containers with large diameters. In motorised versions, the motor and gearbox are designed to be located outside the container.
Tractor-powered agitators are frequently used on farms. The agitator is not driven by its own motor, but via the PTO shaft of the tractor or agricultural machine. The agitator is therefore not in continuous operation, but is only used temporarily to stir the slurry tank. The impeller is of crucial importance for the efficiency of the agitator. The size of the impeller is selected depending on the tractor power. Optimised impeller geometries enable shorter agitation times and lower energy consumption.
Submersible mixers are one of the most proven types of mixer used in agriculture. In a submersible mixer, the impeller, motor and other components form a compact unit that is fully immersed in the slurry. For this reason, the housing is designed to be waterproof and corrosion-resistant. The slurry mixer is mounted on a vertical guide mast, along which it can be flexibly moved up or down. Thanks to this height adjustability, submersible mixers are particularly suitable for use in slurry tanks with varying filling levels.
For use inside buildings, such as in stables, there are mobile versions that can be transported using a chassis. To stir near the ground even in confined spaces, designs with telescopic square tubes can be used.
